Start Litecoin Mining

#1 First off I recommend Burnside’s Mining Pool at  and set up your account then log in.

#2 Click on “Account Settings” and update your “Time zone”, “Payment Address”, “Donation %”, “Automatic Payout”, and “Authorization Pine”.  Then click “Update Account Settings”

#3 Scroll down to the bottom of the “Account Settings” page and set up your working.  It will be username.workername and “Worker Password”.  Keep these simple so it is one less mistake you can make in your litecoin.conf file.
#4 Download reaper version 13b4 or higher from

#5 Extract the reaper download file, open it up, and then open notepad.  Save a file called litecoin.conf and reaper.conf inside of the reaper folder you just extracted.

A) litecoin.conf is to have these settings inside:

port 9332

protocol litecoin

worksize 256
aggression 14
threads_per_gpu 2
sharethreads 4
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 6144
long_polling yes

B) reapver.conf is to have these settings inside:

save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown yes
long_polling yes
platform 0
device 0
cpu_mining_threads 0
mine litecoin

#6 Click on the reaper.exe and starting mining litecoins.  Remember you can log into and monitor your workers from any PC.

**Optimal settings vary from card to card. If you need to use your PC as a desktop while mining, reduce your aggression until it performs as needed.  (~13 for most PCs)

In this link are ATI settings comparisons with different types of miners and GPUs courtesy of

I don’t recommend experimenting with different miners and GPU settings until you get more comfortable with the overall mining process!

I’d actually like to play with the system and try to look around. Are there available mining programs that works easily on Linux systems?

  11. Alex B says:

When I tried this the reaper window closes itself instantly when I try to run it :(

I can’t see anything so I have no idea what’s wrong. Help?

  12. Alex B says:

Ok, ignore my last comment…I’ve made progress since then. I’m now launching from a command prompt so I can see what’s going on. I also had accidentally downloaded the wrong version of reaper. Now I have a new issue. A few seconds after I launch reaper, Windows is popping up a message saying that “reaper.exe has stopped working. Trying to find a solution.” I tried lowering the aggression but that doesn’t help.

    Any ideas?

Thanks for the post and helpful info. Just started looking into this all and will have to struggle through the mining process. I have it all saved, and set up the notepad files like you said. I just can’t figure out how to get my computer to run the reaper.exe file. Any help/suggestions from anyone?

    Thanks, Kyle

  18. thephantom4567 says:

yeah…. reaper stopped responding after like 10 seconds.

  19. Stewart says:

    Looks complicated! I use MacMiner

  20. Jag says:

First great site.I setup as described and activated mining. However checking in see that the miner does not seem to be active. details as below:

workername, Active, Hashrate, RoundShares, RoundStales, StalePer
    is as below:
    miner.1, N, 0, 0, 0, 0.00%

I am not sure if I created the litecoin.cong and reaper.conf file correctly? I was not allowed to save .txt files with names litecoin.cong and reaper.conf as they already existed. So I DELETED the existing litecoin.conf and reaper.conf files atready in the reaperv13beta4_64 folder and created new .txt files with names litecoin.conf and reaper.con and inserted indicated as above.

Any idea why I am not able to mine?
    Thanks in advance.

  21. Jag says:

You say it is “dead worker” because you are no longer receiving shares from it. Not sure what you mean.

What do I need to do to activate it?

  22. Jag says:

downloaded reaper version 13b4 for win-64bit already contains litecoin.conf and reaper.conf files which cannot be edited to insert settings indicated.

Can I simple delete these two files and re-create them with notepad? I did that before but then monitoring worker on gave dead worker indication!

  23. jag says:

I inadvertently changed conf files to txt whilst doing litecoin and reaper settings. Corrected it.

exe file working now but can’t seem to connect as seeing:
    “Error with server:….502 Bad Gateway..

Also unable to logon to my account on either.
    Any issues with the server.

    Thanks for the support.
